Editing, but deeper…
-
I provide editing that goes beyond the usual stages of re-structuring, line editing, and proofreading. I attend to those layers, but with a perspective that is geared towards helping you express deeper truths, whether these are spiritual, philosophical, or psychological. This is about more than having plot, character, or style that fits the rules of ‘good writing.’ Storytelling requires becoming aware of our psychological patterns and the impact these patterns have on our writing. By seeing the patterns in your writing, I will help you hone your personal style by leaning into your strengths and addressing your shadows.

The writers I work with have typically engaged in psychotherapy or another form of healing, or are healing practitioners themselves. Or, they may have a spiritual perspective on life and want to convey something deeply meaningful to their readers. I am open to working with writers who may not fit into these descriptions, so please reach out if interested.
Some examples of projects I work on: memoir, fiction, auto-fiction, self-help/ spiritual support books, articles, essays, story collections.

Before I became a psychotherapist, I completed an MA in Creative Writing at the University of Toronto. While there, I wrote my thesis novel under the supervision of author Susan Swan, edited the work of undergraduates, and hosted creative writing workshops for students. Since then, I’ve been blending my writing roots with the skills I’ve gained as a therapist, providing consultation on a variety of short fiction and poetry, a screenplay, and a soon-to-be-released memoir.

Typically, I take on a project for a set duration (eg. 3 months) that we decide ahead of time. Whenever possible, I work alongside the writer, during in-person sessions, so that we can talk through changes and reach mutual understanding on what must be conveyed in the writing. My hourly rate is $90, though I may charge more or less depending on the complexity of the project. Further details of the contract can be negotiated.
